Female Incontinence Treatment

By sawwatson at 2010-12-14 01:25:19
Incontinence by itself is not a disease but a symptom of some other condition that results in incontinence. Stress incontinence for example is one of the most common forms of the condition and is mostly caused by a weakening of the muscles in the pelvic floor. This is fairly common among women because of the strain and damage that is done to this area when giving birth. While the stress of childbirth may not immediately be evident, as the years go by, coupling that stress with the normal loss of muscle tone most likely will result in an incontinency problem.

A woman's normal life stages: pregnancy, childbirth, and menopause, can pose certain health challenges. When the natural rhythm of life of life is disrupted and creates some disharmony within a woman's body, quality of life suffers. One such quality of life issue ailing a growing number of individuals is incontinence, which pertains to losing control of urine. This health condition may be temporary or long-standing.

Those afflicted with temporary or acute incontinence are usually eased of their problem when the condition that has triggered it (which may be a urinary tract infection, stones, or childbirth, or some other possible cause) is remedied. Just imagine the pressure heaped on the bladder by a new life growing in a woman's womb.

Where the leakage is caused by pressure placed on the bladder the incontinence is referred to as Stress Incontinence. This type of incontinence can be caused by lifting heavy objects, sneezing, coughing or even laughter. The source of the problem is a weakened sphincter, or pelvic floor muscles causing the urethra to reposition itself incorrectly.

When many people feel the urge to urinate often, they assume that they are suffering from urinary incontinence, when in fact; they could very well be dealing with issues that arise from other, more simply, ratified issues. Actual urinary incontinence needs to be diagnosed by a physician.

Female urinary stress incontinence is most often found in women who are going through menopause or who have had multiple pregnancies and vaginal childbirths. Menstruation, pregnancy, and menopause can lead to changes in estrogen levels and weaken the pelvic-floor muscles that increase the risk of incontinence.

Urinary incontinence refers to the unintentional, uncontrolled release of urine. Commonly, this leakage occurs during a cough, laugh or sneeze, or when you have the urge to urinate but cannot reach a bathroom in time. It's important to realize that incontinence is not a disease but a symptom. Incontinence is a byproduct of some other problem within the lower urinary tract.

Urinary incontinence does not normally lead to major health problems, but it can obviously be unpleasant and embarrassing. With that being said, urinary incontinence is actually quite common (especially with older adults) and is relatively easy to treat.

Male canine urinary incontinence can be somewhat alarming to owners when it first becomes noticeable. A well trained, well behaved dog suddenly begins to void in places where it normally would not do so. Owners see this and begin to wonder what the problem is with their pet. Is it a behavior problem or is it a health problem? The truth is that urinary incontinence in dogs can be either.

Your veterinarian will explore many possible causes of the problem. These include urinary infection, muscle control, blockages such as mineral deposits and stones, and behaviorally related issues such as stress.

It should be noted that testosterone replacement therapy can become expensive. In many cases, the use of PPA, a drug normally used in female hormone replacement therapy, can be substituted. This decision, of course, has to be made by your vet and whatever regime he or she orders should be followed.
