Healthy Eating Food Pyramid Guidelines

The staple of modern day diets include foods like bread, cereal, pasta, rice, and other grains. These foods constitute the base of what was once a chapter within our middle school health textbook: The Food Pyramid. Patterning a diet according to this food pyramid would mean up to 11 servings of these types of foods.

If you notice the highest amount of servings on the food pyramid is actually the bread, cereal, rice and pasta group. These are all carbohydrates and many diets forbid this kind of consumption of carbohydrates. The problem is not the actual carbohydrates that you are eating, it is when you are eating them and with what other foods are they being consumed with.

As you'll notice when reviewing the new pyramid, some bands are fat on the bottom and get thinner as they reach the top. Why? Because foods are not created equal. While apple pie contains apples, it is not as good for you as a freshly picked apple straight form the tree! The same is true for a tomato vs. ketchup. The less nutritious variety of the food is depicted at the top thinner part of the pyramid, with the more nutritious item featured on the bottom.

The next group in the food pyramid is vegetables. The recommended amount is 2.5 cups per day, which typically translates to at least one different vegetable per meal. While we once touted the benefits of green vegetables, we now know that green veggies aren't the only beneficial ones. You should vary your veggie intake, so that you receive the different vitamins and minerals associated with the different veggies.

The Malaysian Food Pyramid is a visual tool that is used as a guide in designing a healthy diet. It is developed as a guide to provide a framework for the types and amounts of food that can be eaten in combination to provide a healthy diet.

Of far greater importance, the Dietary Guidelines for Americans set the standards for all federal nutrition programs, including the school lunch program, and helps determine what food products Americans buy. In other words, the guidelines influence how billions of dollars are spent each year. So even minor changes can hurt or help a food industry.

I'm quite amazed when I realised that I'm not an overweight adult, who grew up as an overweight kid. And looking at my parents and my brothers, none of us are overweight. Funny. I guess my parents did something right to keep our weight and health good while we were kids.

Most people are aware of "The Food Pyramid". It is basically a guideline created by the government as a guide for eating healthy. As of lately there has been an upgrade to the food pyramid however it not a great guideline for losing weight.
