Graves Disease Causes and Cures

By sawwatson at 2010-11-15 00:45:42
Many people who have been diagnosed with Graves Disease wonder how they developed this autoimmune thyroid disorder in the first place. The truth is that there are many different Graves Disease causes that exist, and in this article I'll discuss some of the more common reasons why people develop Graves' Disease. When I personally was diagnosed with this condition I too wanted to know what was the cause, so I can definitely relate with what you're going through.

Graves' Disease is labeled as being an incurable condition by most endocrinologists and other medical doctors. However, many holistic doctors have a different viewpoint of this condition. Being a holistic healthcare professional, to no surprise I was open to a natural Graves' Disease treatment protocol when I was first diagnosed with this condition.

This article is written to inform the reader as to what Graves disease is, and which are the 3 most common symptoms. It is our wish that this information will help the reader to more correctly self-diagnose the issue, and encourage them to seek medical attention.

Thanks to a mixture of traditional medicine and stress relieving techniques, you can avail of a natural cure for Graves disease. There are actually many different groups that offer a package of various stress reduction methods and dietary alterations to fit lifestyles and budgets of different Graves disease sufferers. Thus, there is no single natural cure for Graves disease: if you are afflicted with it, you will have to keep fit, eat healthy, and relax.

So once again, this means that you probably will have to take synthetic or natural thyroid hormone daily...forever. Now to be frank, this isn't the case with everyone, as while some people will need to take thyroid hormone daily, others who are told they will need to take it forever might be able to restore their health if put on a natural treatment protocol. Of course this depends on how much damage was done to the thyroid gland.

Graves disease symptoms include weight loss, frequent defecation, disturbed sleep, fatigue, goiter and irritability. It has a strong hereditary component. For example, when one identical twin has the disease, the other twin will have it 25% of the time. Smoking is associated with the eye manifestations but not the thyroid manifestations.

This condition usually results in symptoms such as fatigue, weight loss, heart palpitations and increased appetite among other things. Doctors' have been unable to diagnose why people get this condition but have tried to diminish the symptoms by prescribing medications such as Tapazole and PTU. These medication have been known to mask the symptoms by shutting down the thyroid. Other methods to end the symptoms of graves disease are radioactive iodine or surgery.

Thyroid problems are common, particularly in women; an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism) can impact upon health significantly as the thyroid is the master gland of the metabolism. An overactive thyroid can cause the speeding up the metabolism in the body causing diarrhea, weight loss, hair loss, palpitations and many other symptoms.

Eyeball protrusion is one of the characteristics of this disease. Swollen eye tissue and inflamed muscles literally push the eyeballs out of their sockets. The protrusion of the eyeballs is known as exophthalmos and even though it is part and parcel of the disease, only a few people develop this condition. As rare as it may be, severe exophthalmos cases can be a threat to the eyesight.
